We’re involved in a historical restoration project which, in part, will mean reproducing molding that dates back to the 1883. Back then all decorative trim work was custom made and had unique profiles to the era. Although there are restoration companies where one can purchase chair rails and other decorative trim work, it comes with high price tag. In the interest of keeping within the project budget, we will be using our own carpentry skills to make the matching trim work.
Historical preservation projects force us to slow down and appreciate the work of the woodworking artisans who came before us. It’s satisfying to know we have the skills to craft an exact replication.
